What does blogging do for you?

It provides a means for me to record important events/milestones, as well as a forum for discussing things of interest to me or current events. I've recently been very busy with microblogging on sites like Twitter, Pownce and Plurk!, which I admit take time away from regular blogging.
How are you celebrating the 4th of July?
Spending day with family BBQing and having good time. We'll watch the neighbors fireworks, many of them have bought illegal stuff, and keeping an eye on the house! Sad but true.
I'll never understand why others are so eager and willing to take enormous risks with illegal fireworks, especially with all the fires Californians have experienced throughout the state in 2008 alone.
All the cooking gear necessary for any type of cuisine we may desire while at work. This isn't even the kitchen area.
Found a smaller version of this ball for Lilac at Petco. Went back for treats and cat food and found this new improved size, perfect for this human to play with while at work!
The gals threw a shower for Lilac, replete with gifts, balloons & party favors! We ate pizza and talked as I opened gifts.
Lilac got bags of treats, toys, catnip as if she needs it, laser mice, canned kitten food and a hand quilted mat for to sleep on.
The gals surprised me this a.m. with gifts for my new cat Lilac. They said everyone gets a shower! LOL
Don't yet know what's in the bags, waiting until I'm home to open them. I do appreciate their thoughtfulness very much.
ADDENDUM: I was asked to leave gifts at work until another gal comes to work tomorrow. She was upset to find out I'd received some gifts during her absence.
